Las Vegas Invitational Volleyball Tournament

Dear Parents and Players:

Free Unsigned Senior Showcase at Las Vegas Invitational Volleyball Tournament!

One goal of PrepVolleyball.com has always been to help young volleyball players realize their dreams of playing in college. Sometimes, merely publicizing their exploits isn’t enough. College coaches have to see these talented athletes up close and personal.

With that in mind, we are proud to present the Unsigned Senior Showcase on Friday February 15, 2008, the evening before the Las Vegas Invitational.

PrepVolleyball.com has reserved all 18 courts between 7 and 9:15 p.m. at Cashman Field Center, 850 North Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, the main site of the 2008 LVI hosted by the Southern California Volleyball Association.

We are still working out the details of the drills players will be asked to participate in, but here’s what we can tell you:

1. There will be no testing. No height measurement, reach or jump touching. They take too much time and the feedback we’re hearing from college coaches is they want to see you contacting the ball.

2. We will have a minimum of two coaches per court running the drills to make sure you get as many touches as possible within the allotted time frame.

3. There will be no six-on-six or four-on-four competitions. We want to minimize the chance that anyone will be hurt the evening before competition begins.

4. Hitters will hit and pass. Middles will hit and simulate blocking. Setters will set and pass. Defensive specialists and liberos will pass and will dig balls, but only on a controlled basis.

5. UniversityAthlete.com will be there making sure that college coaches have all your information electronically downloaded in their Palm Pilots.

Last year, more than 400 players showed up and were herded into the five courts we had reserved. SCVA commissioner Ann Davenport saw the demand and generously gave us the entire facility for this year's event, all 18 courts. Your kids won't be standing around this year. They will have a chance to showcase their skills to hundreds of college coaches!

What do your players need to do to sign up?

Registering for the USS is FREE if the player or her family is a member of PrepVolleyball.com.

1. If not a PrepVolleyball.com member, unsigned seniors will need to go to PrepVolleyball, click “Subscribe Now” and join our great site for the $25 annual fee. Complete the sign-up form and pay with a credit card. Once you have completed your registration and login, proceed to step 2.

2. If/Once you are a member, simply sign in, find the link to the Unsigned Senior Showcase, click on it and follow the instructions. The links are located on the member landing page (coming soon!), under Fun Stuff and other locations throughout the site. 3. Once on the Unsigned Senior Showcase registration page, simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete your registration. Once you have submitted your registration you will receive confirmation via e-mail. Please bring that to the USS in case we have any technical difficulties.

4. You also will be assigned a number and receive a free PrepVolleyball.com t-shirt, which we will hand out before the Showcase. We ask that you wear the shirt during the Showcase. You will affix your number, which we also will provide, to the shirt.

Athletes will participate at a designated time based on their Primary Position. The waves are:
7:00pm - 8:00pm: Outside Hitters and Defensive Specialists
8:15pm - 9:15pm: Setters and Middles
Be sure to check your e-mail regularly for any updates from us.

Please plan to come 30 minutes early so that you can check in, get your shirt and number and warm up.

We hope that this Unsigned Senior Showcase can help you achieve your goal of playing in college. We are excited to be able to provide one more avenue for you to show what you are capable of. The rest is up to you!
